Fish fingers

Hi Fish Fans

It has been a while since the last update. Rattlefish  have been busy recently (as usual)

Rattlefish proved their mettle at the recent Brough Festival that was apparently attended by 700 people. We have also played two great gigs at the Polar Bear and the Ferry Inn. Congratulations to Howard for receiving his Rattlebadge, thanks to John Connolly for standing in for Simon at the Ferry (who felt the need to go to Newcastle to get hammered) and congratulations to Simon for being the first member of to get a tip (£5 from a bloke who was soon after persuaded the leave the establishment in question!).

And thank-you to the young couple at the Ferry who describe themselves as keen festival and gig attenders and describe us as the best band they have ever seen. We can only agree....They were pleasantly surprised that a band with a collective age of about 150+ years could deliver the goods. Mike's self-esteem will last for a few months on that conversation alone! And Mike is not the only Fish being adored and adulated. Duncan was spotted by some Rattlefish fans who were in a taxi queue in town (Hull) the other night as he entered an exclusive night club (!) and got  "its Rattlefish" shouted at him. He was reported to punch the air in acknowledgment of the recognition and respect. Mike and some FishWives were also present but sadly missed the chants of the adoring fans as they were ushered into the club. Are we becoming local C-list celebrities?  Life is not often dull for these ageing indie-ists!

If you want to see the Fish this weekend head down to The Crown in old East Hull on Holderness Road. Great pub, great audience, great gig. And that will be your your last chance to see the Fish until August because we are having July off (yes we do need a holiday).

We will be back in August in Beverley and Hedon. We will be back in Hull in September. Check out the web-site Gig section for further details.

PS we now have Rattlefish T-shirts for sale in various colours and sizes. £10 each, drop us a line if you want one.

Cheers

Rattling all over the place

Hi

The Fish have been really busy since the last update. Some great gigs, crowds and anecdotes.Weddings, 21sts and pubs have seen Rattlefish play to audience of all ages and musical tastes recently. We will have a few soundbites and photos from some of these gigs up on the site very soon.

The new 3.2kW PA system is bedding in nicely. Also the new lights have added some panache to the whole Fish experience. And Leigh had added something new to his wardrobe...

Sorry to our loyal Driffield fans about the recently cancelled gigs. Usual story: the pub is under new management and the brewery cancelled us.

Next gig for the Fish is the Highway tommorrow. This is a great friendly pub and is in close proximity to a great kebab house that do a line in marvellous cheesy chips!

I would like to announce to the Rattlefans that since losing two stone I have moved from obese to overweight so you will have to drop the "fat" from the usual "fat B*st*rd" heckles! No cheesy chips for me though on saturday.

Next up is Broughfest where we are 4th billed. We hope to get at least a full hour so come along and rock out with us. For more details check out www.fakefestivals.co.uk

June continues with three (possibly four) great gigs: Polar Bear, Ferry and the Crown. We will keep you posted about the scheduled gig at Driffield's Red Lion.

Keep coming back to check out for new gigs and updates.

Drop us a line if you want to make an enquiry for your party or wedding. We are very friendly.

The Fish get all Hedonistic

Saturday for the Fish was a stonker down at the old Polar Bear in Hull. Over two hours of live indie-rock music with three encores. And the Fish battled-on when a very (drunken) young lady attempted to breach the stage resulting in a loss of several mic stands. You may or may not know who you are...

And what an impressive light show. I think a smoke machine next (or a drum riser for Simon attached to two trolley jacks ... you know the rest....)

Thank you for Lugs & Lugs & Co for showing up again and giving us that support. It was great to see some colleagues who work for a local housing association having a good time too and all those beautiful birthday girls.

Onwards and upwards: it would be great to see our loyal fans join us at the Queens Head in Hedon on the Thursday 28th February. This is usually a great night so come and join us.

Keep on eyes on the web-site for our up to date gig list. In March we shall be visiting Hull, Beverley and Brough. Oh and we have just purchased a 3.4kW PA amp so we will look forward to wringing that one out soon!!! See you later.

Rattlefish Crowned after a Sloop

Hi

What a great Rattlefish weekend we had!!!!

A big thank-you goes out to all our Rattlefish fans who turned out to see us at the Sloop on the 11th. It was good to see you all (Pete, John, Rob,Janet, Lynn, Mike, Elaine & Andy) and of course our own Rachel (Mrs Mike Clarke) who was celebrating her birthday (very late 30's!!!!!) with a couple of the Fishwives and the Brough crew. Thanks to Colin for looking after us.

The Fish conquered the Crown in true Rattlefish style. A 300-strong audience belted out most of the songs we did and yes ... they loved us. A big Fish mention to Les who bravely and totally unrehearsed got up and did an Oasis number with us for one of the (3) encores. Well done mate ... if any band needs a Liam-esque singer come and see Les at the Crown. A big thanks for Gary for looking after us. See you in April.

We are off to the Red Lion in Driffield in September. Come and see us (Janet)

Cheers

PS Janet: thanks for dancing all night and 'nil carborundum illegitimi' xxx

Nought in November

Hi

Sorry to report that all the previously advertised November gigs have been cancelled due to issues related to the various venues (change of ownership, floods & cock-ups etc). But we forgive the guilty parties and plan to reschedule asap. I just hope our fan-base will be as forgiving!!!

We may be able to play a Beverley Beaver gig before the end of the year. I will keep you posted.

Keep an eye on the 2008 tour as the dates are filling up and new venues are being opened up to Fish Fans.

See you soon

We Remember Even If You Don’t!

The ’fish rocked the Polar Bear proper on Friday. It took a while to melt the ice - being the last Friday of Hull Fair meant the pub took a while to fill up, but by the time the second set was underway we had ’em up and dancing like kippers.

These two delightful fish fans were so impressed that Wendy (on the right) booked us for her husband’s 30th birthday party. We’re still waiting for that call Wendy - or was it just the drink talking?

Missing Power Amp

Hi

We recently managed to mislay a Carlsbro Powerline 800 Power Amp at one of our recent gigs. It is basically a heavy black box with two volume controls on the front.

There is a modest reward for its safe return.

Cheers

The Fishy Beaver and the Bank's Bank Holiday Fish Fest

The Fish have been busy in the last few weeks with a cracking gig at The Beaver in Beverley and to finish off the Bank Holiday we played a mammoth four-sets (not for-sex) gig on Sunday at the great Bank's Harbour in Hull. Another first at this gig for the band (other than playing for three hours): an over-excited fan gained access to the stage and had to be escorted back to the front stalls by security (Thanks Sean). We started at 6:30PM and finished at 11PM. What a night. Big thanks to all our supporters at Bank's Harbour and the Fish Wives for once again venturing into the night to support their favourite band!

Apologies for the cancellation of the Three Tuns gig but they still have not got the electricity fixed following the flood damage they suffered. We are hoping to be back there in November.

There is no rest for the wicked and in September we play a 21st birthday party, The Highway on the 22nd September and then back to Bank's Harbour on the 27th.

See you soon

A Roaring Night At The Red Lion

Rattlefish were back at the Red Lion in Anlaby on Saturday night after their Summer break. The lads were on fine form from the off, but the audience lagged behind for the first set. A rendition of mournful mancunian Morrissey’s First Of The Gang To Die at the start of Set Two soon had the punters shaking some booty on the dancefloor. The night got off to good start when BBC Radio Humberside called up the pub about 7.30 to see if the ’fish would plug the show live on air. Leigh Fish was unanimously elected as the band spokesman and two minutes later he was out there in radioland spreading the word of the ’fish to the world (or the East Riding and North Lincolnshire anyway).

The lads are well and truly warmed up now for their debut at The Beaver in Beverley this Thursday, closely followed by Sunday’s bank holiday ’fishfest at Banks Harbour on Beverley Road, Hull. Sunday’s gig should be a cracker, with four sets planned from 6pm – and this is Banks Harbour so anything could happen!
